A note to the ladies – hobbies are great for your wellbeing !

For me, painting has been a life saver.

When my marriage ended my career ended too – I had been working in my husband’s family owned boutique hotel business – so, at the age of 45 I found myself effectively retired.

I had been a full on, hands on hotelier juggling work and family, then suddenly the juggling stopped, I had too much time on my hands and felt lost.

A great artist friend of mine suggested getting a small group of girlfriends together on a regular basis to learn to paint and, honestly, since then I haven’t stopped.

The total absorption of trying to learn to paint got me through countless weekends alone and 15 years on, even though I’ve improved I know I still have so much to learn, I love it.

All the paintings in my holiday cottage are my own work although they’re sometimes based on art I’ve seen and like.

I think or at least I like to think they add a unique style to the property, a personality.

As inspiration to my guests I supply an easel and water colour paints for any budding artists that are holidaying at the cottage – the picturesque country setting and Holy Trinity church nearby provide further inspiration.
